Life at St Mary’s

The Grounds

Our grounds are maintained to a high standard by a gardener who attends to the grassland and gardens upwards of twice a week all year round. There is a variety of planting including formal beds, a community herb garden, a fenced wildlife area and lawns.

All trees are subject to preservation orders and are inspected twice a year, after which any necessary work is undertaken.

The woodlands are generally left untouched except for interventions suggested by Suffolk Wildlife Trust such as the installation of bat boxes. Beautiful in spring with a carpet of bluebells, they provide a rich habitat for birds, hedgehogs and slow worms.

Residents volunteer to take responsibility for the woodland path leading to Spring Road, sweeping, clearing brambles and picking litter. Other residents’ initiatives have included the provision of bird boxes around the estate and the construction of insect hotels in the woodland area.

Shared areas are for the use of all, and consideration should be given to adjacent residents. For example, barbecues are not allowed and dogs must be kept on leads. It is the responsibility of all residents to uphold these and other covenants.

The Management Company and the residents work together to keep St Mary’s an enjoyable and attractive place to live. We hope that everyone will want to support this by keeping the development neat and tidy.

The Play Area

There is a fenced children’s play area to the side of Holmwood House in St Anthony’s Crescent.

Ball Games:  In order to show consideration for all and to preserve the tranquil amenities, the covenants on our homes prohibit all types of ball games and noisy play in all of the open spaces including the Green, but supervised children may use balls in the play area, and Brunswick Road Park is a short distance away.
